Helkin René Díaz is a cinematographer, photojournalist and drone pilot, based in Bogotá-Colombia. Member of the Colombian Association of Directors of Photography (ADFC). He studied film and photography in Colombia (2001), and Photojournalism and cinematography in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2008).

In 2008 he was camera man in the documentary film “THE CROWN” nominated to the Academy Awards and honor mention in Sundance Film Festival 2008.

In 2010 he was the cinematographer and camera man in the feature documentary film “JALA, A JOURNEY THROUGH THE SENSES OF WATER” in India, shot on the Red system. It had its premiere in 2019.

In 2015 Helkin was nominated to the Swiss-Colombian prize in photography with “VESTIGES” a photographic transmedia project about the places where violent cases happened in the south of Colombia. It won the second prize in the documentary photographic festival “Arrimage” In Paris.

In 2017 he was the cinematographer of the awarded Documentary feature film “A RIVER BELOW” Directed by Mark Grieco. -Best Environmental Documentary film, Sheffield film Festival 2017. -Best film Audience Award, Zurich Film festival 2017

In 2022 was the cinematographer of the Awarded Documentary feature film “ALIS”. Premier and winner of the Crystal Bear in Berlin Film Festival. Best iberoamerican documentary film in Guadalajara Film festival and Best Youth movie in Sheffield film festival.

He works for production companies like National Geographic, Apple TV, CINEGO, and NGOs like Human Rights Watch, USA Aid and CLUA.
